Theodora Geraets heeft veel ervaring in het geven van masterclasses in onder meer Nederland, Italië, Duitsland, Thailand, Israël, Brazilië en Chili. De masterclasses zijn een soort groepslessen waarbij vioolleerlingen vol belangstelling de interactie volgen tussen docent en de leerling die op dat moment iets aan het voorspelen is. Theodora geeft aanwijzingen die voor de leerling die speelt behulpzaam zijn bij de ontwikkeling. Interactie maakt masterclasses enorm boeiend. Het zien of een aanwijzing het gewenste resultaat heeft of niet, en waarom. De manier waarop iemand op een aanwijzing reageert. De luisterende leerlingen die iets van zichzelf in het spel van de ander herkennen, waardoor zij ook iets leren van de aanwijzing. Voor iedereen een zeer inspirerende en leerzame ervaring.
Omdat je in een masterclass met meerdere vioolspelers samenkomt, leer je meteen voorspelen voor een grote groep. In een masterclass is het niet alleen een kwestie van direct lesgeven aan de leerling die speelt, maar ook indirect aan de aanwezige toehoorders. Het is dan ook belangrijk dat iedereen op de juiste manier betrokken is. Masterclasses zijn uiterst leerzaam, voor iedereen! Theodora geeft ze zowel voor enkel violisten als voor ensembles.
”I met Theodora back in 2009, in Semana de Música de Ouro Branco, Brazil. It was the first time I heard her playing in person, and until today I consider one of the most beautiful sounds I've heard, combined with the amazing musicality and virtuosity she brings into every piece she performs. Through the past 11 years, I had the opportunity of taking many classes with her, both personally and online sections, were I learned so much about the technic of the violin but also about music itself. She was always very receptive and helpful, helping me prepare for solo concertos, orchestra auditions, chamber music, orchestra repertoire, whatever I needed. She has an amazing pedagogy and helps us understand our issues and correct them, always keeping in mind the musicality and inviduality of the student. One of the times she was in Brazil, I was with her in a masterclass in Petropolis, where she asked me to give my testemony to the other students, of how I, who started music studies in a social project, could study, and develop, and become a professional musician. This gave them a nice incentive, since the masterclass took place in a social project, and to me it was clear that Ms. Geraets also cares about her students as a person too. For me is a privilege to know her, and I know I can always count on her for whatever I need. She knows a lot and she shares this knowledge with all her students.
